Septic permits in Jefferson County, TN

The rules, the agency, and what happens before anyone can dig.

Requirements

Jefferson County (Dandridge) runs its own program through the Jefferson County Environmental Health Department, 202 W. Main Street, Dandridge, phone 865-397-1617.

Published fees: septic permit $500, repair of an existing system $200, site evaluation $100, plan review $600, and $100 extra for one day rush service. Checks go to the Jefferson County Trustee.

The county spells out the order: septic permit first, then the building permit, then a 911 address, then final septic approval before the system is covered. Stake the house site with bright markers before you apply. A lot outside a subdivision needs a recorded plat and a soil map from a certified soil scientist.
