Septic permits in Shelby County, TN
The rules, the agency, and what happens before anyone can dig.
Requirements
Shelby County (Memphis) runs its own program through the Shelby County Health Department, Water Quality Branch and Septic Tank Program, 1826 Sycamore View Road, Memphis, phone 901-222-9572.
The published permit fee is $175. The repair fee is not posted. A permit is required to build, alter, extend or repair a system.
The rule that catches people: where public sewer is not available, the lot must be at least 2 acres, not counting road and utility easements or ponds. A complete application needs an original colour coded high intensity soil map, a plot plan showing utilities and structures, the exact tank and field line locations, and a soil analysis.
